“Shine The Light, Be Brave With Me, We Shall Overcome!”

“It’s the heart afraid of breaking

That never learns to dance.

It’s the dream afraid of waking

That never takes the chance.

It’s the one who won’t be taken,

Who cannot seem to give,

And the soul afraid of dyin’

That never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely

And the road has been too long,

And you think that love is only

For the lucky and the strong,

Just remember in the winter

Far beneath the bitter snows

Lies the seed that with the sun’s love

In the spring becomes the rose.”

(Written by Amanda McBroom, sung best by Bette Midler)

Oh Lord, why, oh why, are so many of our politicians running for “Leader of the Free World” oh, so bigoted, chauvinistic, conservative, and dogmatic of their very own American brothers and sisters — the very people whose vote they’re courting.

Be black, white or brown, a follower of Christ, Moses, Mohammed or Shiva, from Mexico, “Little Italy on Mott,” Silicon Valley or Compton, “from the redwood forests to the gulf stream waters”, progressive-minded, free-spirited, a young millennial, not-so-young (Baby Boomers and hippies), transgendered, disabled or “abled,” no matter what…this land was made for you and me!

Good Lord, we are all from the same source, the same tribe, the same common ancestor and the same lineal descendents. Anthropologists call it, “a clade”, meaning a single branch.

In other words, we all come from the same, single branch on the Tree of Life!

So I can’t figure it out why so many of my “brothers and sisters” are steeped in so much hatred and greed that they’ll stab you in the back for a dollar bill with that good old “dog eat dog” capitalism. God Bless America, right? Adam Smith, I think you’d be turning over in your grave — you’re due for a revision!

Ask the mega-rich, low tax-paying folks like Lloyd Blankfein, the Chairman of Goldman Sachs or Jamie Dimon, the Chairman of JP Morgan Chase. Go a little further back and talk to Henry Ford or John Rockefeller. Yeah, they created much wealth, but for whom?

In a nutshell, I think what Mr. Trump and Mr. Cruz are saying underneath their breath is:

“Brother, sister, father, mother, son, daughter, and ‘friends,’

You don’t fit my mold, but I want your money, I want your sweat, I want your toil….I want your vote.”

We all got fears,

we all got failures.

We all get up on the same side of the bed,

and brush our teeth the same way.

Make no matter, rich or poor,

we relieve ourselves with the same color sh*t.

Make no matter, rich or poor,

we all got it in ourselves…

Compassion! Live! Love! Life!

We can all move mountains!

Shine the light,

let it in.

Shine the light,

let the world in!
